Darwin is easy to get around – public bus services cover most suburbs and most city attractions are within walking distance. Darwin has an international airport and a constant temperature of around 30C – the weather is always warm and humid. The Esplanade looks out over Darwin’s beautiful harbour which can be seen by taking a relaxing sunset cruise. Bicentennial Park also runs the length of the esplanade and you can walk to the Wharf Precinct. Since its founding in 1869, Darwin has continued to build on its rich history. World War II is a significant marker in the city’s personality with relics from this troubled time still very evident in and around the city. In 1974 Cyclone Tracy devastated Darwin. From the ruins, a modern and cosmopolitan city emerged and has made Darwin what it is today.
