The Old Timers Mine & Museum
A Multi Tourism Award Winning Business.
Coober Pedy produces over 90% of the world’s finest opal: this is your chance to see opal in its natural environment. You will marvel at natural seams of opal and fossils as you wander through the mine as well as gaining an insight into living underground by viewing an authentic underground home. Our great gift shop has opal jewellery and souvenirs – you can even “noodle” the pits for your own opals.
See some of the first opal ever found in Coober Pedy by William Hutchison donated to the Old Timers Mine by the Hutchison Family.
