Outback Festivals – Races and Rodeos

The Outback is easily accessible with sealed and well sign-posted roads, a large range of accommodation including, air-conditioned motels , historic pubs, comfortable caravan parks, farm stays and station homesteads. Colourful landscapes, epic events, fantastic hospitality,  incredible tales of strength and stamina bring the Outback to life.

Quilpie Shire has plenty to offer the visitor. With five towns that make up the shire, there are plenty of activities and things to see and do as you travel through each of our communities. There is a pub with no town, visit the furthest town from the ocean – Eromanga, learn about Australia’s largest Dinosaurs discovered here and visit the opal shops for that special souvenir. Quilpie Shire is “simply unique”!

Often it is the festivals, races and rodeos that bring outback communities together to kick up their heels..  The Winton Outback Festival held bi annually in September has over 40 events held over 5 days.  The Birdsville Races held annually bring people from all around the world, Bedourie has Camel Races,  and  Cloncurry is home to the Stockman’s Challenge & Campdraft. Experience life on a real working station with a stay at Nardoo Station near Cunnumulla.
