This fascinating region of Western Australia takes in some of the States most beautiful coastal spots of the Gascoyne to the ancient landforms of WA’s interior. Some of the States best wildflower displays can be seen here.

The coastal towns of the Outback Coast all have their own unique attractions. Jurien Bay, only two hours north of Perth is protected by reefs and islands, the town has wide beaches and sparkling waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Jurien Bay Charter ‘n Dive offer swimming with the sea lions, whale watching and scenic cruises.

For the really adventurous why not skydive right onto the beach with Skydive Jurien Bay, or enjoy a scenic flight – either way, the air is the best way to take in the breathtaking turquoise ocean and coastal scenery!  The delightful historic townships of Northampton and Central Greenough are well worth a visit, the Central Greenough Cafe & Visitors Centre is the perfect stop off point for travellers, serving delicious food, coffee and even wine. Geraldton is surrounded by superb surfing beaches and also has the Hawes Heritage TrailKalbarri is well known for its National Park with its 80km of gorges carved out by the Murchison River. The Park is also one of the world’s richest wildflower areas. Monkey Mia has wild bottlenose dolphins that visit the shallows to be hand fed fish.  Carnarvon, at the mouth of the Gascoyne River, has the One Mile Jetty, great for fishing as well as visiting the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage and the prawn factory located in the old whaling station.  World Heritage-listed Shark Bay is a paradise of bays, inlets and shallow azure blue waters teeming with marine life.

Inland townships like Mullewa, Meekatharra and Mount Magnet are worth exploring. Rugged countryside with rich mining history and spectacular wildfowers in season. Mount Magnet , so named because its ironstone played havoc with surveyor Robert Austins compass. Now known by its Aboriginal name, Warramboo Hill, it offers a wonderful view over the area and its mines. Meekathara was established in the 1880’s during a short lived gold rush but is now an important base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and School of the Air.  Mullewa has a famous wildflower show held in August/September every year.
