Explore this vast, golden landscape of grain, sheep and cattle farms scattered with quaint historic townships and only an hours easy drive from Perth. Avon Valley has a distinctly English feel while northwards the imposing Spanish inspired buildings of New Norcia provide and unexpected contrast set amongst the gum trees. Northam sits at the junction of the Avon and Mortlock rivers and has magnificent heritage buildings.  If you are travelling along the great Eastern Highway the Gull Tammin Roadhouse is open 24 hours and has a fully stocked supermarket, hot food and easy parking for travellers to break their journey.

Along the coastline are surf beaches and lobster ports and the extrordinary Pinnacles Desert draws visitors from around the world.  Each spring, from the coast to the wheatfields, wildflowers provide a common theme for this diverse and interesting region. Wave Rock looks like a giant wave frozen at the moment of breaking and Mulka’s Cave is decorated with Aboriginal rock art. Western Australia is home to some 12,500 species of wildflowers and the Heartlands has some of the most accessible spots to see these displays.
