About Albert Hotel
Outback hospitality with a golden past
Step into history at the Albert Hotel, a true outback icon that’s been serving travellers since 1882. Nestled in the tiny township of Milparinka, just one kilometre off the Silver City Highway, this historic pub is the only hotel standing between Broken Hill and Tibooburra—and the last of four original hotels in the area.
Born from the Mount Browne gold rush, Milparinka sprang up as prospectors flocked to the region. The Albert has witnessed it all—gold fever, frontier justice, and a touch of scandal. In 1886, publican Thomas Hill ran the hotel when it caught the attention of local police, gaining notoriety for fights, theft, and illegal liquor sales.
Today, the front section of the hotel remains from the original structure, with modern comforts tastefully added over time. Guests can stay in the heritage rooms or opt for motel-style cabins, sharing bathroom facilities. For those travelling with a caravan or swag, camping sites are also available—just enquire at the bar.
But the Albert isn’t just famous for its past. Rumour has it that Room 6 is haunted by the ghost of a young woman—one of many tales that linger in the desert air.
Whether you’re stopping in for a cold drink and a hot meal or staying the night, don’t miss the nearby Milparinka Heritage Precinct—a beautifully restored collection of 19th-century buildings that tells the story of life on the edge of the outback.
From gold rush beginnings to ghostly legends, the Albert Hotel offers a truly unique outback experience.
