1942 marked the arrival of the American Soldiers in Charleville during WWII. Their reason, to commandeer the Charleville airport and set up a Top Secret base. Covering an area of approximately 25 sq. kilometres south of Charleville, they would construct 101 buildings and station up to 3500 USAAF personnel at the base.
