About Agate Creek Camping Ground
For a true off-grid outback experience, you can’t go past Agate Creek Campground, located just 70km south of Forsayth in Queensland’s ruggedly beautiful Etheridge Shire. Nestled beside the famous Agate Creek fossicking area, this privately-run campground offers wide-open spaces, clean amenities, and a warm bush welcome to those seeking adventure, connection, and a chance to explore one of the world’s best agate fields.
Campers love the simplicity and charm here—hot showers, flushing toilets, shady spots, and starlit skies. There’s no better base for fossicking day trips, wildlife spotting (keep an eye out for kangaroo families!), or simply relaxing in nature. The campground is just a five-minute drive from the fossicking area, where you can dig for vibrant, multi-coloured agates in various sizes and patterns.
Fossicking licences are required and must be obtained in advance (online or in town). Make sure to bring your own tools, drinking water, and supplies.
The region is renowned for its geological diversity, and whether you’re an amateur gem hunter or simply looking for a quiet place to unwind, Agate Creek Campground delivers a rewarding outback experience. With friendly neighbours, scenic bush surrounds, and the thrill of a good find waiting just beneath the surface, it’s no wonder this place is a favourite among fossickers and campers alike.
Please note: camping is not permitted within the official fossicking area, but is allowed adjacent to Agate Creek
