Cairns of course, offers international facilities and world class attractions.  From here you can day trip to the Atherton Tablelands, Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas or the Daintree River.  Catch the Savannahlander train from Cairns out west to fascinating pioneer mining towns like Georgetown and Croydon.
